ABSTRACT.- Grasslands are endangered habitats through the world. Among its threats, land-use change has been recognized as one of the most important drivers of biodiversity decline. Sustainable livestock farming can be important conserving grasslands and preserving their biodiversity, and particularly in Uruguay are extensive and are carried out based on natural grasslands with little external management. However, in recent years there has been an increasing in land-use change, replacing natural grasslands with cultivated pastures, leading to a homogenization of the environments.

Detection of nitro-conjugated linoleic acid and nitro-oleic acid in virgin olive oil under gastric conditions:relationship to cultivar, fruit ripening, and polyphenol content.

ABSTRACT.- Nitro-fatty acids (NO2-FAs) are being formed in virgin olive oil (VOO), exhibiting pleiotropic anti-inflammatory responses. We analyzed the fatty acid profile, polyphenols, pigments, and NO2-FA levels in two contrasting olive cultivars, Arbequina and Coratina, under two ripening conditions. During in vitro gastric conditions, the extent of nitro-conjugated linoleic acid and nitro-oleic acid in Coratina VOO was higher at the intermediate stage. In contrast, Arbequina VOO did not present changes on NO2-FA formation.

ABSTRACT. A multiclass methodology to determine deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, and 13 widely used fungicides to control the main diseases in barley and wheat crops was optimized and validated. Three QuEChERS methods were compared in terms of recovery and repeatability. The recoveries of the validated method were in the 67-128% range for the selected compounds and relative standard deviations were below 20% according to Document SANTE No. 12682/2019. The limits of quantification (LOQs) were between 10 and 100 μg kg-1.

A data-driven methodological routine to identify key indicators for social-ecological system archetype mapping.

ABSTRACT.- The spatial mapping of social-ecological system (SES) archetypes constitutes a fundamental tool to operationalize the SES concept in empirical research. Approaches to detect, map, and characterize SES archetypes have evolved over the last decade towards more integrative and comparable perspectives guided by SES conceptual frameworks and reference lists of variables. However, hardly any studies have investigated how to empirically identify the most relevant set of indicators to map the diversity of SESs.

ABSTRACT. -The present study was conducted to characterize the major proteome of preimplantation (D6) ovine embryos produced in vitro. COCs were aspirated from antral follicles (2–6 mm), matured and fertilized in vitro and cultured until day six. Proteins were ex- tracted separately from three pools of 45 embryos and separately run in SDS-PAGE. Proteins from each pool were individually subjected to in-gel digestion followed by LC-MS/MS.

ABSTRACT.- Field studies tested the use of lure-baited traps for female removal (FR) of codling moth, Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera:Tortricidae) in apple, Malus domestica Borkhausen, treated with sex pheromone-based mating disruption (MD-FR). Four lures were evaluated, including the combination of (E,Z)?2,4?ethyl decadienoate (pear ester, PE), (E)?4,8?dimethyl?1,3,7?nonatriene (DMNT), and 6-ethenyl-2,2,6-trimethyloxan-3-ol (pyranoid linalool oxide, LOX), these three components with (E,E)?8,10?dodecadien?1?ol (PH), and two lures loaded with PH/PE.

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of temperament and parity on milk production and metabolic responses of Holstein cows in a pasture-based automatic milking system. Thirty-five primiparous and 58 multiparous cows were classified as ?calm?, ?intermediate? or ?reactive? in each of the temperament tests conducted:milking reactivity (MR), race time (RT), flight speed, and flight distance. The milk yield and milk composition, as well as the blood biochemistry, were measured during the first 10 weeks of lactation.

We analyzed the variation of plant composition, forage production, and livestock diet across a broad stocking rate gradient on Eastern Hills rangelands of Uruguay. Our approach encompassed five ranches subjected to mixed sheep-cattle grazing and combined field surveys, microhistological fecal analysis, and remote sensing techniques. We hypothesized that selectivity would decrease as stocking rate increased. Vegetation data and fecal samples were obtained in 17 paddocks in 2008. To investigate the role of stocking rate on vegetation, we focused on dominant species and forage type cover.
