Soil use legacy as driving factor for soil erosion under conservation agriculture.

Water erosion can cause irreversible depletions in soil quality and crop productivity. The susceptibility of the soil to erosion is affected by current and historical management practices. Historical soil management practices like ploughing or subsoil loosening may lead to irreversible degradations of soils, which in turn increases soil erosion risk. Six ?Wischmeier? plots under conservation agriculture, but with different historic treatments regarding soil use and management, were evaluated. These plots were installed in 1984 in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay on a Vertic Argiudoll.

Abstract Onion is among the most consumed vegetables in Uruguay, grown in the northwestern and southern regions of the country. The onion supply presents interannual variations associated with significant postharvest losses, mainly caused by bacterial rots. Besides bulb rotting, onion leaf lesions as well as infections on seed-stalks during seed production may be devastating for some varieties under conducive conditions. This research aimed to identify the causal agents of bulb rots and leaf blight of onion crops in Uruguay.

Clinical History:4-year-old Holstein cow with a history of unilateral (right side) facial paralysis, keratitis, drooping of the right ear, head tilt, circling, stiffness of the right limbs, tremors, and recumbency. Necropsy Findings:The left side of the brainstem was swollen, multiple coalescing areas of the neuroparenchyma in this region were soft, tan-brownish, and slightly depressed on cut section (malacia).

Abstract:Rice is an important source of methane (CH4) and other crops may be sources of nitrous oxide (N2O), both of which are powerful greenhouse gases. In Uruguay, irrigated rice rotates with perennial pastures and allows high productivity and low environmental impact. A long-term experiment with contrasting rice rotation intensification alternatives, including rice?soybean and continuous rice, was recently carried out in an Argialboll located in a temperate region of South America.

ABSTRACT. - The objective was to evaluate the ingestive behavior of Angus yearling steers grazing natural grasslands of Southern Brazil, submitted or not to the application of fertilizers:NG= natural grassland; FNG= fertilized natural grassland, and FONG= fertilized natural grassland improved with the over sown of temperate forage species. Three Angus yearling steers and a variable number of put-and-take animals were used per experimental unit, to maintain a forage allowance of 13 kg of dry matter/100 kg of body weight.

A machine learning approach to model leaf area index in Eucalyptus plantations using high-resolution satellite imagery and airborne laser scanner data.

ABSTRACT. - As a forest structural parameter, leaf area index (LAI) is crucial for efficient intensive plantation management. Leaf area is responsible for the energy absorption needed for photosynthetic production and transpiration, both affecting growth. Currently, LAI can be estimated either by remote-sensing methods or ground-based methods. However, unlike ground-based methods, remote estimation provides a cost-effective and ecologically significant advance.

ABSTRACT:Early detection of fetal distress at lambing is essential to reduce mortality. Practicality and accuracy of pulse oximetry to assess oxygenation status in newborn lambs under field conditions was evaluated. Oximetry was compared with blood gas analyses and included assessment of vitality (Apgar test) and vigour (attempt to and successful standing and suckling) of 135 Finnish by Polwarth lambs.
