O32 (not presented). Effect of feeding strategy and cow genotype on feed efficiency in pasture-based feeding systems. [conference abstract].

Feed efficiency is a most common method to determine biological efficiency of milk production. One way to increase feed efficiency is to balance rations and make more strategic use of supplement. Admore, it is known that cows selected for milk yield have a higher feed efficiency when fed well-balanced diets ad libitum, but it is not clear how it is affected as pasture is included in the diet.
090. Pregnancy rate after tolfenamic acid treatment in bovine embryo recipients. [conference abstract].

Application:Assessment of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) treatment at embryo transfer in recipient cows. Introduction:Reproductive tract manipulation in recipient cows may induce endometrial prostaglandin release causing luteolysis and decreased progesterone levels, potentially contributing to early embryonic loss.
Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) associated with calf mortality in Uruguay.

ABSTRACT.- In Uruguay, the mortality of dairy calves due to infectious diseases is high. Escherichia coli is a natural inhabitant of the intestinal microbiota, but can cause several infections. The aim of the work was to characterize E. coli isolates from intestinal and extraintestinal origin of dead newborn calves. Using PCR, virulence gene characteristics of pathogenic E. coli were searched. The pathogenic E. coli were molecularly characterized and the phylogroup, serogroup and the Stx subtype were determined.
O81. Livestock ruminant production systems and value chains contributing towards a more sustainable world: opportunities and challenges. [conference abstract].

The anti-meat consumption trend is installed globally, where different organized and influencer collectives propose a transformation of agri-food systems and a diet practically free of red meat. The narrative is mainly based on the negative effects of meat consumption on human health, the environment, and cruelty to animals. However, evidence based on scientific information is counteracting these visions. At least 500 million people around the world are totally dependent on livestock for their livelihood and food security.
