ABSTRACT.- Conventional viticulture involves a high use of inputs that negatively impact ecosystem services and biodiversity. Traditionally, vineyards are rainfed systems and vegetation is removed or sprayed with herbicides to avoid excessive competition for water and nutrients. Introducing cover crops can positively promote several ecosystem services and particularly soil and crop health and biodiversity.
ABSTRACT.- Plants grow associated with complex communities of organisms, and their development depends largely on management practices, available nutrients in the soil, environmental conditions, and the balanced equilibrium established among all these factors. In unbalanced environments, diseases, insects, and weeds can decrease agricultural productivity or even destroy crops.

ABSTRACT.- The VegSyst model, initially developed for nitrogen (N) and irrigation recommendations for greenhouse-grown vegetable crops in southeastern Spain, was calibrated and validated for greenhouse tomato cultivated in soil in Uruguay (South America) for autumn and spring growing seasons. Additionally, the performance of the recalibrated VegSyst model was compared to the calibration for tomato grown in Almeria greenhouses of VegSyst model V3.
ABSTRACT.- "Systems thinking" approaches include some techniques and methods developed by social scientists to encourage debate, recognising that their practice is inevitably full of value and that research is a part of intervention. In general, systems theories explain the need to transcend disciplines to increase our understanding of a situation by considering different levels of impact, especially through visualisation tools.
