First delimitation and land-use assessment of the riparian zones at Uruguayan Pampa.

ABSTRACT:The expansion and intensification of agriculture frequently affect riparian zones, mainly in basins where agriculture is the most important activity. In countries with basins dominated by agricultural activities, land use change in riparian zones promotes water quality loss and biodiversity degradation. As a tool to prevent these environmental impacts, the delimitation of riparian zones and buffer strips is crucial. For that purpose, photo interpretation jobs and botanical studies are usually necessary.

Frost risk in canola and carinata as a function of sowing date in the agricultural central region of South America.

Abstract:Crop cycles in spring canola (Brassica napus L.) and carinata (Brassica carinata A. Braun) are controlled by temperature and photoperiod. In the central region of South America, which accounts for 90% of South American rapeseed crop production, farmers seek to sow as early as possible to maximize yield even though early sowing dates expose crops to a higher probability of frost occurrence that had not been quantified before.
Birth, colostrum, and vigour traits of lambs born from Corriedale ewes grazing native pastures supplemented during the peripartum period.

Abstract To evaluate the effect of a short-term energy-protein supplementation during the peripartum on birth, colostrum, and vigour traits of lambs, 214 multiparous Corriedale pregnant ewes grazing native pastures were used. Ewes, according to body conditions score and body weight, were assigned to a 2 × 2 factorial design:type of birth (single or twin), and supplementation (yes or no). Single (n = 67) and twin bearing (n = 39) non-supplemented, and single (n = 67) and twin bearing supplemented ewes (n = 41) were observed during lambing in two similar sub-paddocks.
Agricultural weeds maintain populations of Meloidogyne spp.root-knot nematodes.

Abstract: The presence of Amaranthus spp. Plants showing symptoms caused by root-knot nematode infection were detected in soybean fields from the municipality of Palmitas, Soriano, and Colonia del Sacramento, Colonia - Uruguay. After weed plants collection with root knot nematodes, the causal agents were identified as Meloidogyne incognita and Meloidogyne javanica from their morphology, esterase phenotypes, and species-specific characterized sequence amplified region (SCAR) sequences. The modified version of Koch's postulates was used to confirm the pathogenicity of Meloydogine ssp.
