Population genetic characteristics and mating type frequency of Venturia effusa from Pecan in South America.
ABSTRACT.- Scab, caused by the plant-pathogenic fungus Venturia effusa, is a major disease of pecan in South America, resulting in loss of quantity and quality of nut yield. Characteristics of the populations of V. effusa in South America are unknown. We used microsatellites to describe the genetic diversity and population structure of V. effusa in South America, and determined the mating type status of the pathogen. The four hierarchically sampled orchard populations from Argentina (AR), Brazil (BRC and BRS), and Uruguay (UR) had moderate to high genotypic and gene diversity.
Predicting mandarin fruit acceptability: from high-field to benchtop NMR spectroscopy.
ABSTRACT.- Recent advances in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) have led to the development of low-field benchtop NMR systems with improved sensitivity and resolution suitable for use in research and quality-control laboratories. Compared to their high-resolution counterparts, their lower purchase and running costs make them a good alternative for routine use. In this article, we show the adaptation of a method for predicting the consumer acceptability of mandarins, originally reported using a high-field 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, to benchtop 60 MHz NMR systems.

Towards harmonised and regionalised life cycle assessment of fruits:A review on citrus fruit.
ABSTRACT.- The citrus fruit sector is globally relevant. Considering the great contribution of agri-food systems to environmental impacts, assessing and reducing them can make a positive contribution to the environment. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a widespread tool used to quantify the complex environmental interactions of agri-food systems in general and perennial fruit crops in particular. However, methodological aspects need to be harmonised to perform useful and representative LCAs on fruits.
