Antimicrobial activity of pleurocidin is retained in Plc-2, a C-terminal 12-amino acid fragment.
ABSTRACT. An analysis of a series of five peptides composed of various portions of the pleurocidin (Plc) sequence identified a l2-amino acid fragment from the C-terminus of Plc, designated Plc-2, as the smallest fragment that retained a antimicrobial activity comparable to that of the parent compound. MIC tests in vitro with low-ionic-strength medium showed that Plc-2 has potent activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus but not against Enterococcus faecalis.
Insights on gene expression response of a characterized resistant genotype of Solanum commersonii Dun. against Ralstonia solanacearum.
ABSTRACT. Solanum commersonii is a wild species related to the cultivated potato. Some S. commersonii genotypes have been proven to be resistant to the pathogenic bacteria Ralstonia solanacearum, which causes damage in potato and other economically important crops. Here an expression analysis of the response of a resistant S. commersonii genotype against R. solanacearum was performed using microarrays.
Subinhibitory antibiotic concentrations mediate nutrient use and competition among soil Streptomyces.
ABSTRACT. Though traditionally perceived as weapons, antibiotics are also hypothesized to act as microbial signals in natural habitats. However, while subinhibitory concentrations of antibiotics (SICA) are known to shift bacterial gene expression, specific hypotheses as to how SICA influence the ecology of natural populations are scarce. We explored whether antibiotic ?signals?, or SICA, have the potential to alter nutrient utilization, niche overlap, and competitive species interactions among Streptomyces populations in soil.
Evaluation of panel SNP in metabolic pathways candidate genes for meat in hereford.
Navelina ISA 315:A cultivar resistant to citrus variegated chlorosis.
ABSTRACT. Citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC), caused by Xylella fastidiosa, is a bacterial disease of great importance to the Brazilian citrus industry. CVC is transmitted by grafting and by leafhoppers of the Cicadellidae and Cercopidae families. There is little information about CVC tolerant sweet orange cultivars (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck). However, previous studies have indicated some resistance to CVC in the ?Navelina ISA 315? cultivar. Based on such information, this study has been carried out to determine the resistance of ?Navelina ISA 315?
