ABSTRACT.- In the Great Plains of central North America, sustainable livestock production is dependent on matching the timing of forage availability and quality with animal intake demands. Advances in remote sensing technology provide accurate information for forage quantity. However, similar efforts for forage quality are lacking. Crude protein (CP) content is one of the most relevant forage quality determinants of individual animal intake, especially below an 8% threshold for growing animals.

Residual feed intake for Australian Merino sheep estimated in less than 42 days of trial.

ABSTRACT.- The evaluation of sheep feed intake (FI) in feed efficiency tests is expensive. Decreasing the test period could be a resource-saving tool by reducing the cost of evaluating each animal and allowing to test a greater number of animals per year. For this reason, the objective of this research was to explore residual feed intake (RFI) models and to decreasing the test duration.

ABSTRACT.- Bovine babesiosis and anaplasmosis cause important economic losses in livestock production. In Uruguay, the main aetiological agents of bovine babesiosis and anaplasmosis are Babesia bovis, B. bigemina and Anaplasma marginale. The aim of this work was to describe the outbreaks of bovine babesiosis and anaplasmosis in northern Uruguay between 2016 and 2018. Convenience sampling was carried out. We worked with blood and organ samples from bovines with clinical signs and autopsy findings compatible with babesiosis and anaplasmosis. A total of 140 presumptive outbreaks were studied.

Genomic breeding values' prediction including populational selfing rate in an open-pollinated Eucalyptus globulus breeding population.

ABSTRACT.- In forest tree breeding programs, open-pollinated families are frequently used to estimate genetic parameters and evaluate genetic merit of individuals. However, the presence of selfing events not documented in the pedigree affects the estimation of these parameters. In this study, 194 open-pollinated families of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. trees were used to compare the precision of estimated genetic parameters and accuracies of predicted breeding values with the conventional pedigree-based model (ABLUP) and the pedigree-genomic single-step model (ssGBLUP).

Soil sampling depth and phosphorus extraction method for phosphorus in leguminous pastures.[Profundidad de muestreo del suelo y método de extracción de fósforo en pasturas de leguminosas].[Profundidade de amostragem e método de extração de fósforo em solos com pastagens de leguminosas].

Abstract: The current guidelines and recommendations for P fertilization in Uruguay can be improved by adjusting the sampling depth and analytical methods of testing soil P in pastures with different fertilization history. A set of field trials was con-ducted between2008 and 2012 on 14 sites of Uruguay for the purpose of comparing two sampling depths and three methods for assessing P availability by their correlation with annual dry matter yield response.
