Real time tree row volume estimation for efficient application of phytosanitary products in fruit trees. (Conference Paper).

ABSTRACT. Fruit cultivation in Uruguay are done mainly by small-scale producers, where a single sprayer is used for all the phytosanitary applications. For proper protection of the fruit trees, the broth concentration (the phytosanitary diluted in water) must be adjusted according to the volume of vegetation of the trees. In most farms, this concentration calibration is done once per year for the worst case scenario. Therefore, excessive doses of pesticides are applied to the trees with lower vegetative mass.

ABSTRACT. Feijoa (Acca sellowiana (Berg.) Burret) is one of the most popular native Uruguayan trees whose functional characteristics have attracted the interest for commercial cultivation. The aim of this work was to evaluate the postharvest behavior of six genetic materials, identified as 95, 97, 98, 152, 153 and 154 from the Facultad de Agronomía and Instituto Nacional de Investigación Agropecuaria (INIA, Uruguay) breeding program.

ABSTRACT. Background: The dynamics of phosphorus (P) in the environment is important for regulating nutrient cycles in natural and managed ecosystems and an integral part in assessing biological resilience against environmental change. Organic P (Po) compounds play key roles in biological and ecosystems function in the terrestrial environment being critical to cell function, growth and reproduction.

Interactions of under-trellis cover crops and planting density to achieve vine balance in a temperate humid climate (Conference Paper).

ABSTRACT. The goal of our study was to improve 'Tannat' grape and wine composition, by achieving vine balance. We evaluated a new grape-growing paradigm for Uruguayan conditions that include unpredictable periods of water deficit or excess in nonirrigated vineyards and eliminates competition from cover crops. We used undertrellis cover crops (UTCC) to limit vine water availability, reduce vine growth rate and final canopy size. However, to avoid excessive vine water stress due to the UTCC competition, irrigation was used during water deficit periods.
