Abstract: The presence of Amaranthus spp. Plants showing symptoms caused by root-knot nematode infection were detected in soybean fields from the municipality of Palmitas, Soriano, and Colonia del Sacramento, Colonia - Uruguay. After weed plants collection with root knot nematodes, the causal agents were identified as Meloidogyne incognita and Meloidogyne javanica from their morphology, esterase phenotypes, and species-specific characterized sequence amplified region (SCAR) sequences. The modified version of Koch's postulates was used to confirm the pathogenicity of Meloydogine ssp.

Evaluation of feed efficiency traits in different Hereford populations and their effect on variance component estimation.

ABSTRACT.- Context:Residual feed intake is a relevant trait for beef cattle, given the positive impact on reducing feeding costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The lack of large databases is a restriction when estimating accurate genetic parameters for dry matter intake (DMI) and residual feed intake (RFI), and combining different data sets could be an alternative to increase the amount of data and achieve better estimations.

Implication of the order of blending and tuning when computing the genomic relationship matrix in single-step GBLUP.

ABSTRACT.- Single-step genomic BLUP (ssGBLUP) relies on the combination of the genomic ((Formula presented.)) and pedigree relationship matrices for all ((Formula presented.)) and genotyped ((Formula presented.)) animals. The procedure ensures (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.) are compatible so that both matrices refer to the same genetic base (?tuning?). Then (Formula presented.) is combined with a proportion of (Formula presented.) (?blending?) to avoid singularity problems and to account for the polygenic component not accounted for by markers.

Effect of temporary weaning and creep feeding on calf growth and the reproductive efficiency of their Hereford dams.

ABSTRACT.- The objective was to test if creep feeding (CF) improves the average daily gain (ADG) and weaning weight of calves submitted to temporary weaning (TW) and if the combination of CF and TW improves conception and pregnancy rates of cows. Primiparous (n = 74) and primiparous and multiparous (n = 104) cows grazing native grasslands were used in experiment 1 and 2; respectively. The experimental design was in plots divided into complete random blocks with two replications.

Refeeding ewes ad libitum after a moderate energy restriction during mid gestation did not affect the onset of breeding and ovulating rate of female offspring.

Abstract:Sub-nutrition during pregnancy might affect the offspring´s reproductive performance through effects on the development and function of gonads. This study evaluated a maternal energy restriction in ewes from day 48?106 of gestation, on pre- and post-weaning female lambs` performance, onset of female lambs? breeding and ovulation rate during their first breeding season.

What factors control the crude protein content variation of a basaltic "Campos" native grassland of South America?

ABSTRACT.- Native grasslands are the main source of food for livestock in the Campos region of South America. These forage resources are heterogeneous in species composition, grazing management, and soil fertility within a context of variable climate, all of which are factors that affect forage crude protein content over time and space. Despite the importance of protein in livestock nutrition, there is a gap in the knowledge of how fertilisation, sward height, and soil water availability influence the crude protein content of these grasslands.
