ABSTRACT.- The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of phenotypic, genotypic, and auction characteristics that may influence the selling prices of bulls. Data from 1,540 Braford and 1,179 Brangus bulls sold at auctions in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, were collected and evaluated individually. Body condition score (BCS), muscularity, frame, foreskin size, presence or absence of horns, and data regarding the auction such as name/venue, event edition, forms of payment, among others, were considered.

ABSTRACT.- Bacillus sensu lato were screened for their capacity to mineralize organic phosphorus (P) and promote plant growth, improving nitrogen (N) and P nutrition of soybean. Isolates were identified through Type Strain Genome Server (TYGS) and Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI). ILBB95, ILBB510 and ILBB592 were identified as Priestia megaterium, ILBB139 as Bacillus wiedmannii, ILBB44 as a member of a sister clade of B. pumilus, ILBB15 as Peribacillus butanolivorans and ILBB64 as Lysinibacillus sp.

Energy efficiency, reproductive performance, and metabolic parameters of grazing Hereford heifers.

ABSTRACT.- Feed and energy efficiency have been topics of extensive research in recent years, with residual feed intake (RFI) being the preferred index to determine feed efficiency in beef cattle. Nevertheless, the biggest downside of RFI is that its measurement requires accurately determining individual feed intake, which leads to the need to carry out RFI trials in confinement conditions.

Metamitron thinning efficacy of apple fruitlets is affected by different rates, timings and weather factors in New York State.

ABSTRACT.- Precision chemical thinning is the most common method of thinning apple fruitlets because it requires little time and is cost-effective. The aims of the current study were I.- to investigate the effect of the application of metamitron at different rates on 'Gala' apples; II.- to determine which fruit diameters were most sensitive to metamitron spray at several rates (between 180 and 500 ppm); and III- to identify the key environmental factors that explain Metamitron efficacy on a year-to-year basis.

Monitoring of recessive defects associated with low reproductive performance in dairy cattle in Uruguay.

ABSTRACT.- Background:Most dairy cattle breeds originate show an average generational inbreeding rate of 1%, which favors the occurrence of recessive defects associated with low reproductive performance. Aim:The objective of this study was to monitor recessive defects associated with low reproductive performance in dairy cattle.

ABSTRACT.- Chlamydiosis is a zoonotic disease that affects several animal species. Therefore, reliable detection techniques are essential for efficient control of the disease. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for Chlamydia sp. was applied to 137 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded liver sections from native and exotic birds. The samples were divided into two groups:retrospective (n=57) and prospective (n=80). The probe was designed based on an annealing sequence that targets the Major Outer Membrane Protein coding gene.

Opportunities for mitigating net system greenhouse gas emissions in Southeast Asian rice production:A systematic review.

ABSTRACT.- Southeast Asia (SEA) is a key producer and exporter of rice, accounting for around 28% of rice produced globally. To effectively mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in SEA rice systems, field methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions have been intensively studied. However, an integrated assessment of system-level GHG emissions which includes other carbon (C) balance components, such as soil organic carbon (SOC) or energy use, that can positively or negatively influence the net capacity for climate change mitigation is lacking.

ABSTRACT.- Purpose of Review:This review intends to examine the role of phytochemicals in plant defense mechanisms against environmental stresses and their potential health benefits. Specifically, it aims to explore how pre-harvest insect damage can enhance the production of phytochemicals in pecan and strawberries fruits. Additionally, the review intends to examine the regulation of plant phenolics and ellagitannin derivatives through signal transduction pathways and how these pathways are influenced by biotic stresses.

ABSTRACT.- Weeds can be hosts of root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne. The importance of the species Meloidogyne morocciensis parasitizing many crops is recognized, but their reproductive capacity in weeds is not known. The present study hypothesizes the ability of M. morocciensis to parasitize and reproduce in different weed species found in Brazil. The objective was to evaluate the reproduction of M. morocciensis in 36 weed species. The plants were individually inoculated with 5,000 eggs and second stage juveniles and kept in greenhouse for 60 days.
