Supportive techniques to investigate in vitro culture and cryopreservation efficiencies of equine ovarian tissue: A review (Review)

Abstract: During the reproductive lifespan of a female, only a limited quantity of oocytes are naturally ovulated; therefore, the mammalian ovary possesses a substantial population of preantral follicles available to be handled and explored in vitro. Hence, the manipulation of preantral follicles enclosed in ovarian tissue aims to recover a considerable population of oocytes of high-value animals for potential application in profitable assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs).

Snorkeling Strategy: Tolerance to Flooding in Rice and Potential Application for Weed Management (Review).

Abstract: Flooding is an important strategy for weed control in paddy rice fields. However, terrestrial weeds had evolved mechanisms of tolerance to flooding, resulting in new ?snorkeling? ecotypes. The aim of this review is to discuss the mechanisms of flooding tolerance in cultivated and weedy rice at different plant stages and the putative utility of this trait for weed management. Knowledge about flooding tolerance is derived primarily from crop models, mainly rice.

Weed control in natural grasslands: A case study using a perennial native forb from the South American Campos.

Abstract Management of native weeds in natural grasslands is a challenging task. Often, recommendations are based on short?term studies of the response of weed cover and density to different control methods. However, perennial species well adapted to disturbances typically recover from commonly used control techniques. In this long?term study, we focused on a rosette native to the South American Campos : Eryngium horridum Malme (Apiaceae). This plant is strongly avoided by cattle due to its spiny leaves and tends to form dense patches, reducing the available grazing area.

Predicting plant performance for the ecological restoration of grasslands: the role of regenerative traits.

Abstract: Active restoration of grassland ecosystems often requires the addition of species as seeds. However, knowledge of seed germination and initial performance of native species are still lacking in many regions, including the Brazilian grasslands. Regenerative traits (such as seed traits) have the potential to predict performance parameters related to the initial establishment of a species in a given environment.

Solving the controversy of healthier organic fruit: Leaf wounding triggers distant gene expression response of polyphenol biosynthesis in strawberry fruit (Fragaria x ananassa).

ABSTRACT. The claim that organic agriculture produces higher levels of phytochemicals has been controversial for decades. Using strawberries as a model crop in field conditions, a preharvest leaf wounding stress was applied to study the production of phytochemicals in fruits. As a result phenolic compounds (PCs) and total soluble sugars increased significantly, where specific phenylpropanoids showed increment up to 137% and several genes related to PCs biosynthesis and sugar transport were overexpressed.
