ABSTRACT.- Achieving sustainable food and nutritional security requires a transformation of the existing agrifood system. In livestock farming based on natural grassland in Uruguay, an ecological intensification strategy could play a radical role in the transition towards more sustainable systems. This study analyzes the continuity of interconnected projects that used co-innovation approaches to promote and evaluate ecological intensification strategies over a period of 15 years (2004-2019).

ABSTRACT.- Over the last quarter century, increasing honey bee colony losses motivated standardized large-scale surveys of managed honey bees (Apis mellifera), particularly in Europe and the United States. Here we present the first large-scale standardized survey of colony losses of managed honey bees and stingless bees across Latin America. Overall, 1736 beekeepers and 165 meliponiculturists participated in the 2-year survey (2016-2017 and 2017-2018). On average, 30.4% of honey bee colonies and 39.6% of stingless bee colonies were lost per year across the region.

ABSTRACT.- The impact of GnRH treatment on the day of TAI in beef cows has received limited investigation, especially concerning its association with estrus expression. Consequently, two experiments were conducted to assess the potential of GnRH treatment on the day of TAI to enhance fertility according to the expression or not of estrus in beef cows. Experiment 1 aimed to determine ovulation rate and luteal function, while Experiment 2 aimed to determine the effect of the two GnRH treatment approaches on pregnancy rate. © The Author(s).

Land use planning to minimize the export of phosphorus:An optimization model for dairy production at a catchment area scale.

ABSTRACT.- The intensification of activities in the Santa Lucia River basin in Uruguay has resulted in an increase in the concentration of nutrients in surface waters with the consequent acceleration of the eutrophication. Dairy production, of great relevance in the area, needs to increase production to ensure the economic viability of the activity. In this context, it is necessary to find solutions that address trade-offs between productivity and polluting potential.

Current sustainability challenges of production systems require comprehensive answers with a multidimensional approach. The objective of this study is to select indicators that allow quantifying the productive-economic, social, and environmental evolution of dairy systems transitioning towards agroecology through a co-innovation approach.
