Phytohormones and cold stress tolerance. (Chapter 9).

Extension of tropical and subtropical crops to colder regions, favored by global climatic changes, represents a challenge for cold stress adaptation. An upsurge of cold injury is being registered in different crops and regions, constraining growth and yield. Abiotic stresses are considered a growing threat for sustainable agriculture by compromising plant growth, finally leading to the reduction of crop productivity. The aim of achieving cold adaptation with a minimum crop yield and quality detriments will help to accomplish "zero hunger" global objectives.

Use of the VegSyst model to simulate seasonal dry matter production, N and K uptake and evapotranspiration in greenhouse soil-grown tomato in Uruguay.

ABSTRACT.- The VegSyst model, initially developed for nitrogen (N) and irrigation recommendations for greenhouse-grown vegetable crops in southeastern Spain, was calibrated and validated for greenhouse tomato cultivated in soil in Uruguay (South America) for autumn and spring growing seasons. Additionally, the performance of the recalibrated VegSyst model was compared to the calibration for tomato grown in Almeria greenhouses of VegSyst model V3.

ABSTRACT.- The levels of resistance to bacterial wilt (BW) of potatoes caused by Ralstonia solanacearum (Rs) are limited. Solanum commersonii (cmm) is a wild tuber-bearing potato highlighted for its resistance to BW.

First report of root and crown rot caused by Dactylonectria novozelandica on strawberry in Uruguay. ABSTRACT.- Since 2015, a high mortality rate of strawberry plants has been observed in the north of Uruguay related to crown and root diseases caused by a pathogens complex. In 2016, associated with the death of plants, Cylindrocarpon spp. was isolated with a frequency of 42.4 %, ranking third, preceded by Neopestalotiopsis sp. and Fusarium spp. Aiming to increase the knowledge of the pathogens that integrate the complex, three isolates of Cylindrocarpon spp. were characterized by molecular, morphological and pathogenicity analyses in strawberry plants.
